Performing Arts Department

South Roots is the Performing Arts Department of Kibbutz El-Shammah. Established in 1997, South Roots aims to redeem the arts in order to uplift a community. South Roots provides a platform and training for local artists to develop their talents.

Activities Include

• Two musicals portray the history and beauty of the Colored people of South Africa. These are "I Long to Sing" and the current running "Broken Shackles."
• Five levels of performing arts workshops.
• Tours to other communities to multiply the model of community upliftment through the arts and to display the gifts and talents of the Colored people of South Africa.
• South Roots welcomes visitors to the Kibbutz with their cultural protocols and provides entertainment through dance and song.

Future Vision

• Tour locally and in Zimbabwe, Germany and Australia
• Purchase a vehicle for national tours.
• Cultural theater.
